Nestor Falls Information


Nestor Falls is a busy town located in the South West corner of Sabaskong Bay. Arriving from the west you will find the Falls for which the town was named. In 1933 when the highway was built into the area commercial development start and the small town became the trade centre for the resorts, and pricate camps that dot Sabaskong Bay.

When travelling in the Nestor Falls area by boat please remember that you are proceeding "downstream from Nestor Falls." and at Gooseneck Island you change to "upstream." This effects the marker system for safe navigation.

Nestor Falls came into being due to the Timber industry. Stands of tall pines in this area were the mainstay of this communities employment. In Nestor Falls itself you will find the normal small community stores and government offices. Post Office, Grocery Stores, Hotels, and Restaurants. Fuel is available at several locations and the town has a centrally located park which offers a great view of the Falls itself.

Not far from Nestor Falls, is another small community. Morson which is located in Swen's Bay. Here several marina's are in the Bay west of Hanson's Bay. A shopping centre is located near the bridge.

The Town of Morson was named after a First Nations family, Johnathan Morriseau who was a local guide, and also operated the Hudson's Bay outpost in the 1870 era.. He was also a lighthouse keeper at both Ferris Island, and Royal Island.

The Lighthouse near Morson is being resorted and is open to the public. It is a 30Ft lighthouse which stands over a rocky mainland point south of Morson. Originally built in 1897 on Tomahawk Island it was put into service the following year. When the lighthouse became obsolete it was moved over the ice to it's present location.
